Last season, Leicester City upset the odds to win the Premier League with ease.
The goals of Jamie Vardy, the persistence of N’Gola Kante and the guise of Claudio Ranieri led to them becoming the most unlikely winners of the Premier League ever.
Will this season produce an upset?
Here are some of the teams outside of the traditional powerhouses who may close the gap with the big boys.
West Ham: The Hammers haven’t got off to the best start this season, with Slaven Bilic’s side currently sitting in the relegation zone after being knocked out of the Europa League.
Nonetheless, players with the talent of Mark Noble, Dmitri Payet and Andy Carroll are far too talented to stay languishing at the bottom. However, considering the start they have had, it is unlikely they will be challenging at the top either.
Mid-table obscurity beckons for the London side
Crystal Palace: Under Alan Pardew, Palace have the manager to take on the traditionally stronger sides, but do they have the skill?
The likes of Christian Benteke, Yohan Cabaye and Conor Wickham would suggest that the answer is ‘yes, definitely.’.
The Selhurst Park locals could be one of the surprise teams this year, with the London team currently sitting just behind Manchester United in the table.
Everton: The Toffees have started the season in blistering form, with the likes of Seamus Coleman, Romelu Lukaku and Gareth Barry among the league’s top performers.
The Merseyside team are currently sitting in second and may prove to be this season’s over-achievers.
