Rory McIlroy Tipped to Top Points Table at 2016 Ryder Cup

The 2016 Ryder Cup makes for fairly bleak reading as far as Team Europe’s perspective goes, but Rory McIlroy has been tipped to thrive on the individual stage at this year’s headline golf event.

The United States are heavily favoured to end Europe’s stampede of three successive Ryder Cup victories as the competition tees off in Minnesota this weekend, but McIlroy can look forward to a silver lining.

Golf Digest reported the Northern Irishman is 13/2 (7.50) to emerge as top points scorer at Hazeltine National Golf Club, with Americans Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth not far behind at 7/1 (8.00) and 8/1 (9.00), respectively.

McIlroy comes into the 2016 Ryder Cup fresh off of victories at the Tour Championship and Deutsche Bank Championship, and even if Europe’s chances of winning this year look slim, it doesn’t have to be a complete wipeout.
