Cristiano Ronaldo looks assured to clinch his third Ballon d’Or title later this year, with the Real Madrid superstar in line for recognition following 2016 triumphs in the UEFA Champions League and Euro 2016.
The 31-year-old was one of the major driving forces behind Portugal’s run to the Euro 2016 title, where their final victory over hosts France saw them clinch their first European Championship.
It was also Ronaldo’s decisive penalty that sealed Real Madrid’s second Champions League crown in the space of three seasons back in May, hoovering up much of the silverware on offer in 2016.
Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are second and third in the Ballon d’Or contenders list building up to the announcement date closer to January 2017.
The stars of La Liga dominate the pecking order, too, with Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, Barca’s Neymar and Real star Gareth Bale making up the top six picks for the award.
