Former WBA (Super) featherweight champion Carl Frampton suffered the first loss of his career in a rematch against Leo Santa Cruz in Las Vegas on Saturday evening.
The Northern Irishman previously beat Santa Cruz by majority decision in July of last year to take the title but lost by the same means at the MGM Grand Arena and was stripped of his belt.
The result means each fighter now holds one win over the other, and Frampton called for a third and final decider in his post-match comments:
“Leo probably deserved it. It was my fault and I want to apologise to the travelling fans. I hope we can do it again – we need to do it again.”
While one judge scored the fight as a draw, two of the judges in Nevada scored in favour of Santa Cruz 115-113, meaning the Mexican reclaimed the championship he lost six months ago.
