Manchester United have been installed as firm favourites to win this season’s UEFA Europa League as we enter the first legs of the quarter-final stage, although other teams in the competition could present good value for money due to their presence.
The prestige of the Premier League club has at times covered up United’s inadequacies in recent months, although quarter-final opponents Anderlecht face a huge fight if they’re to topple Jose Mourinho’s outfit.
Spanish outfit Celta Vigo take on Belgian brutes Genk and may be considered one of the other frontrunners for the European crown, currently listed at 6/1 (7.00) to win the entire competition.
The other quarter-final fixtures look much more evenly poised, with Lyon facing Turkish titans Besiktas while Dutch powerhouse Ajax take on Bundesliga side Schalke 04 in Amsterdam for their first leg next week.
It could be that one of Lyon, Ajax or Besiktas could be a dark horse for this season’s Europa League title, and if they can book their place in the semi-finals, bigger plaudits may await.
