Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reiterated his belief that Gunners talisman Alexis Sanchez will ignore speculation of a summer transfer and sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium.
Talk has been rife in recent months that Sanchez could leave to further his pursuit of silverware, but Wenger stated in a press conference on Tuesday that he’s hopeful of his star extending his stay in north London:
“I don’t think you would sell him to any Premier League club, that is for sure. But as I have said, I think he will stay and sign a contract.”
It was reported by the Independent last month that both Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are demanding close to £300,000 per week in order to sign new deals at the Emirates—more than double their current salaries—and it may be other European outfits are more readily equipped to meet those demands.
Manchester City are a 2/1 (3.00) leader in the odds to take Sanchez off Arsenal’s hands, with Premier League leaders Chelsea currently second at 5/1 (6.00), although Wenger’s words suggest the versatile forward won’t be moving to a domestic rival anytime soon.
