British cycling star Geraint Thomas has improved Team Sky’s chances of clinching a maiden Giro d’Italia crown after he moved into second place in the general classification following his third-place finish in Stage Four of this year’s race.
Quick-Step’s Bob Jungels still holds a six-second lead over the two-time Olympic gold medallist, and England’s Adam Yates sits another four seconds behind Thomas in third.
Despite his most recent move up the rankings, Cardiff native Thomas is still at rather long odds of 10/1 (11.00) to claim a maiden Giro d’Italia victory for not just his sponsor, but Britain also.
That’s due to the lurking presences of Colombian phenomenon Nairo Quintana and Italian favourite Vincenzo Nibali, with the former a clear frontrunner at 4/5 (1.80), and the latter a second-favourite with 5/1 (6.00) odds.
