Reading forced their way into the 2016-17 Championship play-off final after defeating Fulham 1-0 in the second leg of their semi-final play-off on Tuesday evening, sealing a 2-1 aggregate win in the process.
Yann Kermorgant scored from the penalty spot to bag a crucial decider at the Madejski Stadium and Reading will now face either Huddersfield Town of Sheffield Wednesday in the play-off final, with that pair set to face off in the second leg of their semi-final on Wednesday evening.
Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam has led the Royals to Wembley in his first season in charge of the club and is looking to return to his old club’s stomping ground for 2017-18.
Speaking after the result, Reading goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi said: “It’s a dream come true. We’ve been fantastic all season. In the first leg, we knew the most important thing was to get the draw because, at home, we know we can do it. The fans have been waiting for this moment.”
