British and Irish Lions Tour Odds Improve Despite Second Defeat in New Zealand

British and Irish Lions Series Odds

  • New Zealand: 1/6 (1.17)
  • British and Irish Lions: 4/1 (5.00)
  • Drawn Series: 40/1 (41.00)

A late defeat to the Highlanders on Tuesday has improved the British and Irish Lions’ chances of clinching a series victory in their 2017 tour of New Zealand, according to the bookmakers.

Tries from Waisake Naholo and Liam Coltman guided the Highlanders to a slim 23-22 win over coach Warren Gatland’s side, who went over through Jonathan Joseph, Tommy Seymour and Sam Warburton but couldn’t avoid defeat.

But despite suffering a second tour loss in four games, the Northern Hemisphere outfit made the small but significant climb to 4/1(5.00) to emerge with a tour triumph against the All Blacks, having been found at 5/1 (6.00) only 48 hours earlier.

The Highlanders may rank among the best club teams in world rugby at present, but Gatland is under pressure to find a winning formula in his squad before they run into the All Blacks.

This summer’s hosts have also fallen in the odds of late, moving down from 1/7 (1.14) series favourites to the slightly less fancied 1/6 (1.17).
