Returning boxing great Floyd Mayweather has said he’s answering global demand after agreeing to fight UFC light heavyweight champion Conor McGregor at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 26.
After much negotiation, it was confirmed last week that Mayweather, 40, will come out of retirement to face The Notorious in a boxing match in just over eight weeks, and he told Black Sports Online this is the fixture the world wanted:
“They asked for this fight. I was in retirement, but they wanted me back and I’m back. McGregor is a tough competitor. People all around the world demanded this fight so I had to give them what they wanted to see.”
McGregor has enjoyed a recent rise in the odds since their fight was announced, too, improving from 7/1 (8.00) outsider up to 5/1 (6.00) in a matter of days.
