If there was any doubt as to whether Arsenal would be willing to keep Alexis Sanchez for the final year of his contract, manager Arsene Wenger has left little wondering as to their stance on the player’s potential departure.
Wenger has addressed Sanchez’s future on a near-constant basis this summer, with the player understood to be holding out for a £350,000-a-week deal.
However, the Frenchman has now said he’ll no longer answer questions on the subject and is seemingly prepared to lose Sanchez on a free transfer next summer:
“The only thing I can tell you is he is focused. My decision is clear – he will stay and he will respect that.
“It is not information anymore, it is suicide. He will be here for this season and if we manage to do it for more seasons, we will do that as well.”
Wenger’s comments clearly indicate he would like to tie Sanchez down to a new contract, with the Chile international 4/9 (1.44) with Sky Bet to remain at the Emirates Stadium beyond this summer’s transfer window.
