Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has declared the club’s pursuit of Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale is over after he helped down the Red Devils in Tuesday’s UEFA Super Cup defeat.
Mourinho had previously indicated he would push ahead in his pursuit of the Welshman if he failed to feature in the Super Cup clash in Skopje, Macedonia.
Not only did Bale start the match, but he also helped set up Isco for a crucial second goal in Real’s 2-1 win, and Mourinho said after the result: “I think now everybody knows he is going to stay. Clearly the club want him, the manager wants him and he wants the club.So for me, game over, even before it started.”
The bookmakers believe Bale is going nowhere this summer and have the forward listed at 1/5 (1.20) to remain at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu beyond the September 1st transfer deadline, although United are the lowest-priced of any potential destination at 4/1 (5.00) with Sky Bet.
