Manchester United’s season-opening demolition of West Ham United on Sunday has seen the Red Devils make strides in the Premier League title stakes, with manager Jose Mourinho’s side now firm second-favourites for the crown.
The Red Devils could be found at odds of around 4/1 (5.00) on Saturday, but a 4-0 throttling of the Hammers was enough to see them move up to 11/4 (3.75), just behind favourites and fierce rivals Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side also won their first match of the season and looked comfortable en route to a 2-0 beating of Bright and Hove Albion, and the early signs suggest Manchester could be looking at a two-horse race for first place.
That’s due to the fact reigning champions Chelsea sit third in the stakes at 7/1 (8.00) following a surprise 3-2 defeat at home to Burnley, with Tottenham Hotspur following up at 8/1 (9.00).
The Blues were never fancied to retain their crown and started the season as 3/1 (4.00) underdogs to win back-to-back Premier League titles, showing just how far faith in their ability has fallen of late.
