Barcelona have received a big boost in their pursuit of Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho after the Premier League outfit announced their star will miss the trip to Hoffenheim this week.
Liverpool are set to face off against the German outfit in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifier on Tuesday, but Coutinho will be missing for the second match in succession.
The Brazilian played no part in Saturday’s 3-3 draw against Watford due to a reported back injury, although it seems only too coincidental his absences come after handing in a transfer request last Friday.
Barca recently had a second summer bid for the player turned down, reported to be worth £90 million, and some have suggested Coutinho is digging his heels in as he looks to secure a move to the Camp Nou.
The odds of Coutinho moving to Barca have fallen once again as a result and he’s now listed at 2/5 (1.40) with Sky Bet to leave for the Catalan giants, less than half the 15/8 (2.88) price he can be found at to remain at Anfield.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said on Monday:
“Nothing has changed. Not on one side or on the other. He is not available for us in the moment, that’s the main issue if you want. He cannot play for Liverpool in this moment and, how everybody can imagine, that’s quite a blow for us.
“We’ve known for a few days about it so we can prepare this game without him, like we have to prepare the game without Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge.”
