Arsenal have slipped even further off the pace in their bid to win this season’s Premier League crown following a surprise 1-0 defeat at Stoke City on Saturday, while undefeated Manchester United remain on course for a title-contending campaign.
The Gunners succumbed to a disappointing defeat at the Bet365 Stadium and are now at long odds of 14/1 (15.00) to win the league, while United’s 4-0 hammering of Swansea City saw them cut down to 9/4 (3.25) with Ladbrokes.
That’s a small improvement on the 11/4 (3.75) odds they could be found at after last Sunday’s 4-0 demolition of West Ham United, making it eight goals scored in the Red Devils’ first two games of the season.
Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial have each scored in both of the side’s league games thus far, but Mourinho is expecting harder times ahead and said after Saturday’s result: “The word that describes the team now is confident. At the moment, everything is going in our favour – but it’s not always motorway – you find difficult roads and roadworks.”
