Barcelona plan to sue former forward Neymar for breach of contract relating to a loyalty payment that was made to the Brazilian after signing his final contract at the Camp Nou.
Spanish newspaper Marca explained the Blaugrana intend to sue Neymar for €8.5 million (£7.8 million)—plus 10 per cent in interest—which is the value of the loyalty bonus he received in October 2016, when he penned a five-year contract at the Camp Nou.
Barca feel the contract was breached when Neymar’s €222 million (£200 million) release clause was triggered by PSG, who recently made the former Santos star the most expensive player in the world.
It could be easier done than said, however, considering it only recently emerged that Barcelona were withholding a €26 million payment allegedly agreed for Neymar Sr., the player’s father.
According to Marca, the responsibility to pay back the amount would fall to PSG in the event their new signing is unable to afford the sum.
