Manchester City have pulled out of the race to sign AS Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe after conceding defeat to French giants Paris Saint-Germain, who look set to complete a mega-money deal for the youngster.
Mbappe has been the subject of a summer of speculation and was thought to be a target for both City and Real Madrid, but the Sun reported PSG are now free to launch their £150 million push for the France international.
Monaco’s wonderkid is now at low odds of 1/10 (1.10) with Sky Bet to join PSG this summer, while Monaco appear to be clinging onto the idea of hanging onto their starlet and are priced at 11/2 (6.50) to retain his services.
The Citizens’ director of football, Txiki Begiristain, conceded defeat in the hunt for Mbappe and was quoted saying: “We are out of the race – it is impossible to do it with the time remaining. It will not happen, it is impossible.”
