Manchester United could expect to see newly re-signed striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic back in action earlier than expected after the club announced the Swede as part of their Champions League squad for this season.
Ibrahimovic was released by the Red Devils in June after suffering a knee injury near the expiration of his one-year contract, but his quick resurgence earned him a new deal at Old Trafford until the end of this season.
United offer some value as a 9/1 (10.00) shot for the Champions League title ahead of their return to Europe’s elite competition, having beaten Ajax 2-0 to clinch last season’s UEFA Europa League and finishing sixth in the Premier League table.
Ibrahimovic wasn’t expected to return to play until January, the month after United’s final Champions League group game against CSKA Moscow on December 15.
However, his inclusion in the squad suggests manager Jose Mourinho has at least some hope of having the forward fit to feature earlier, with his men opening their group campaign at home to Basel on September 12.
