A new women’s bantamweight champion could be crowned at UFC 215 on Saturday evening as challenger Valentina Shevchenko enters her bout against title defender Amanda Nunes as a slim favourite to take the crown.
Nunes defeated Miesha Tate to take the belt at UFC 200 in July 2016 and has since defended her strap against Ronda Rousey, but this will be the Brazilian’s first bout since defeating Rowdy in December 2016.
Shevchenko previously lost to Nunes but has since responded by winning back-to-back fights against former champion Holly Holm and Julianna Pena.
She’s now a 5/6 (1.83) favourite to win the rematch against Nunes with Sky Bet, while The Lioness is ever so slightly off the pace at 10/11 (1.91), having previously pulled out of her first scheduled rematch against Shevchenko at UFC 213 in July.
Holm has picked Kyrgyzstani Shevchenko to win on Saturday and said: “I think Amanda Nunes is a very tough girl; Valentina is far more technical. I think everyone knows Amanda likes power shots, and Shevchenko is a lot more technical. I think Shevchenko can take the belt away.”
