Former world welterweight champion Kell Brook has given Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez his backing to beat Gennady Golovkin when the pair meet in a much-anticipated bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Brook was stopped by GGG in what was his first professional defeat least year, but the Briton has backed Canelo after seeing Golovkin go the distance with his most recent opponent, Daniel Jacobs. He told Sky Sports:
“It’s hard to say, but I am leaning towards Canelo. He has excelled over the years; his variation, his speed and his youth… everything is going to play big factor on Saturday night.
“I still think I showed a blueprint on how to beat Golovkin and it was touch-and-go if he won the fight with Jacobs.”
Golovkin is the slight favourite to beat Alvarez, 27, and is priced at 4/7 (1.57) to come out on top, according to Sky Bet. Canelo, meanwhile, is at larger odds of 5/4 (2.25), although with a record of 49-1, he stands as good a chance as any of handing GG his first career defeat.
