Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has enjoyed a last-minute rise in support leading up to Saturday’s much-anticipated meeting with Gennady Golovkin at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Canelo himself remains at odds of 5/4 (2.25) with William Hill, although unified middleweight champion Golovkin has climbed to 4/6 (1.67) from his previous billing as 4/7 (1.57) favourite.
What’s more, punters can now back a draw to occur at 22/1 (23.00), whereas a price of 25/1 (26.00) was being offered just 24 hours earlier, showing the lines between the two are drawing ever closer.
Golovkin boasts an intimidating record of 37 wins and no defeats, with 33 of those victories coming via knockout, while Alvarez’s only defeat came to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013.
But it’s Canelo who has insisted he’ll be seeking the knockout on Saturday, and he said this week: “I prepared myself for the knockout. Look, anything can happen in this fight. But that’s what I’ve prepared for – to knock him out.”
