Saracens’ chances of winning this season’s Aviva Premiership haven’t been altered by the four-month injury lay-off star forward Billy Vunipola is set to face, according to the bookmakers.
It recently emerged Vunipola will miss that period after injuring his knee in the recent defeat of Sale Sharks, although that hasn’t budged Sarries from their post as 11/10 (2.10) Premiership frontrunners.
Speaking to Chris Jones on the BBC Radio 5 live Rugby Union Podcast, Vunipola said: “I didn’t enjoy being on the surgery table twice in one year and that’s supposed to be deemed as normal. Kids want to play rugby because it’s fun, but they also need to know that it’s tough, and it’s normal to have surgery at 25 because you’re so worn down.”
Saracens have started this season with a record of three wins and one defeat—which came at the hands of Bath in Week 2—after trouncing Sale 41-13 at Allianz Park on Saturday.
Exeter Chiefs remain on top of the standings—two points above Sarries—but remain 4/1 (5.00) underdogs to win the Grand Final, while second-placed Wasps are listed as a 5/2 (3.50) shot.
