Real Madrid have taken a step back in the race to win the Champions League title despite beating Borussia Dortmund 3-1 at the Westfalenstadion on Tuesday to stay level atop Group H.
Cristiano Ronaldo netted twice for Los Merengues after Gareth Bale continued his return to form with the opening strike in Germany. Nevertheless, Real moved from 3/1 (4.00) frontrunners before that result to a higher price of 7/2 (4.50) after their win.
Paris Saint-Germain are gaining on Zinedine Zidane’s side, too, and they’ve climbed to a price of 5/1 (6.00) with Sky Bet after demolishing Bayern Munich 3-0, with Barcelona just behind at 6/1 (7.00) after they edged Sporting Lisbon 1-0 in Portugal.
Despite a rocky start to the Spanish league campaign, the reigning champions of Europe look confident in their Champions League title defence, and Zidane said after Tuesday’s win that he was glad to have his biggest stars at their best:
“We had a spectacular game, a brilliant game. The important thing is to score more than our opponents and we did that. I am delighted for Ronaldo and Bale. The side worked hard. The midfield worked very hard. I am extremely happy because they played a tremendous game.”
