Leeds are already the dark horses heading into Saturday’s Super League Grand Final fixture against Castleford, but the injury loss of back-row forward Stevie Ward has stunted their chances further.
Ward suffered a dislocated shoulder in Friday’s semi-final win over Hull, and Leeds coach Brian McDermott confirmed on Monday that his man will not feature in Saturday’s crunch collision with the Tigers:
“They couldn’t get the shoulder back in on Friday so they had to keep him in and do it with gas and air. Obviously he’s in a bad way but he turned up this morning and I don’t think long-term it will be too bad.”
Ward is yet to be ruled out of England’s World Cup tournament but will be a loss for Leeds as one of three internationals named in the roster.
Castleford remain the frontrunners to clinch the Grand Final win on Saturday, however, and are priced at 4/7 (1.57) with Betfair, although Leeds aren’t far off at 11/8 (2.38).
