Ladbrokes Football Odds: Spain Chances Unaffected Despite Gerard Pique Quit Claims

Spain’s chances of winning next year’s FIFA World Cup have not suffered despite Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique’s claims he could quit the national team if his views on Catalan independence become an issue.

Pique was one of the players who started in Barca’s 3-0 win over Las Palmas on Sunday, the same day on which the Catalan referendum for independence was held.

Speaking to the press after that result, a teary-eyed Pique spoke of his despair to see footage of Spanish military police assaulting people attempting to vote in the ballot, per BBC Sport:

“I think I can continue. But if the board really thinks I’m a problem, I will take a step back and leave the national team before 2018. There are many people in Spain who disagree with what happened today and believe in democracy.”

As things stand, Spain remain fourth-favourites to win the World Cup and are listed at 15/2 (8.50) with Ladbrokes, although those odds could ebb further out if any of their Catalan contingent decide against representing Spain in 2018.
