WBA super-middleweight champion George Groves sent a statement of intent to upcoming opponent Chris Eubank Jr. after notching a stoppage victory over Jamie Cox on Saturday.
Groves felled Cox with a body shot in the fourth round of their clash at London’s SSE Arena to move into the semi-final of the World Boxing Super Series, where he’ll face Eubank Jr. next February.
The pair came face to face in the ring after Saturday’s result, when Groves declared: “He’s improved but hasn’t boxed anyone on my level. If I box like I did (against Cox), he doesn’t stand a chance. I boxed tremendously.”
Eubank Jr defeated Turkey’s Avni Yildirim in Stuttgart last Saturday to book his own spot in the competition’s final four, clinching his eighth successive victory, going the distance in only one of those bouts.
Groves is the slimmest of underdogs for February’s fixture and has been installed at evens (2.00) with bookmakers Ladbrokes, while Eubank Jr just about edges the odds as a 5/6 (1.83) frontrunner.
