England talisman Sam Burgess has said the squad heading into this year’s Rugby League World Cup boasts more “X-factor” than the one ousted from the semi-finals of the 2013 tournament.
A defeat to New Zealand in the last four left England disappointed four years ago, but South Sydney Rabbitohs star Burgess has given this team more of a chance to succeed in their trip to Australia:
“We’ve got a good chance but it’s down to how hard we want to work when it gets hard on the field.
“The mood is great. The boys are relaxed. We’ve trained extremely hard and prepared very well so we’re looking forward to what’s going to be a great start to the World Cup. It will be a physical game against Australia and we are more than ready.”
England will face off against hosts and 2/9 (1.22) tournament favourites Australia in their first match of the tournament on Friday. England are a distant second-favourite and are priced 7/1 (8.00) with Ladbrokes coming into the tournament, with 8/1 (9.00) New Zealand the only other close contenders.
