The Houston Astros are on the brink of ending their 55-year wait for a World Series after an extra-innings victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers put them 3-2 up in the best-of-seven series on Sunday evening.
Houston emerged 13-12 victors to clinch a slim lead in the series thanks to a walk-off single from Alex Bregman in the 10th inning, the Dodgers having pulled back 12-9 down to force overtime.
Speaking after the result, Bregman said: “Back and forth, the two best teams in baseball fighting to the very end and going toe to toe with each other. Everybody was used on both teams, pretty much, every single player. It was special for us to come out on top.”
The Astros entered the World Series as 5/4 (2.25) underdogs but now lead the stakes 4/11 (1.36) with Sky Bet, while the Dodgers have slipped out to 9/4 (3.25), needing a win in Tuesday’s sixth game if they’re to force a seventh.
