A campaign is underway to see ex-President Barack Obama return to the position just months after taking his leave of the White House—except this time, it’s voters in France who are leading the recruitment pledge.
A website called obama2017.fr has been started in a bid to encourage people to sign a petition calling for former Illinois Senator and President of the United States Obama to run in this year’s French election.
Obama completed the maximum two terms in the Oval Office before being succeeded by Republican Donald Trump in January.
According to the website, obama2017.fr wishes to tempt Obama into the role with some apparent dissatisfaction at the current presidential candidates, and also: “Because he has the best résumé in the world for the job.”
Centre-left former economy minister Emmanuel Macron has been likened to Obama in some ways, largely due to policy and preference, although far-right Marine Le Pen looks to be a tough candidate to beat this year.
