The Chicago Fire have received a welcome mid-season boost in their bid to make this season’s play-offs after Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger officially completed his move to the club on Tuesday.
The Men in Red remain outsiders to win this year’s crown, but that hasn’t stopped the club’s MLS odds from improving with bookmakers in the days since it became apparent the German legend would be moving to Toyota Park.
The Fire will be hoping Schweinsteiger can have a similar impact to the likes of Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard or Andrea Pirlo in MLS, and Chicago Fire manager Veljko Paunovic spoke promisingly of what he hopes the 2014 World Cup-winner will bring:
“In the locker room, he will be a huge example of a champion. He still is somebody that can show that on the field and [demonstrate] how our guys have to work, prepare, behave, think and work together in order to get to that level.”
