A recent spurt of injuries at Old Trafford appears to have dented Manchester United’s chances of winning this season’s Europa League after the latest additions to the Red Devils’ fitness concerns sent odds tumbling once again.
Defenders Eric Bailly and Luke Shaw picked up knocks during Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Swansea City, joining Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and others on the treatment table.
It’s affected manager Jose Mourinho’s chances of beating semi-final foes Celta Vigo to a lace in the tournament decider. After beating Anderlecht to advance to the semis, United could be found at 6/5 (2.20) to beat the Spaniards and progress, compared with the 9/5 (2.80) chances they find offered their way now.
Thankfully for some at Old Trafford, United have kept their place as 10/11 (1.91) frontrunners to win the title, although this latest set of injury troubles could disrupt their silverware ambitions.
