Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has accepted Anthony Joshua’s offer of an all-British showdown after the latter defeated Wladimir Klitschko via an 11th-round TKO on Saturday evening.
Joshua endured an epic head-to-head against the Ukrainian icon at Wembley Stadium and withstood a grand test to emerge with the WBA (Super) and IBO heavyweight titles.
Speaking in the ring after his victory, Joshua issued a challenge to Fury—who defeated Klitschko in his last bout—and said: “Tyson Fury, where you at, baby?”
Taking to Twitter, the Gypsy King then responded: “Challenge accepted. We will give the world the biggest fight in 500 years. I will play with you. You are a boxer’s dream. Well done Anthony Joshua. Good fight. You had life and death with Klitschko and I played with the guy. Let’s dance.”
No date is close to being set quite yet, but there is time to set a date toward the latter end of 2017, and Joshua has already been installed as a 4/6 (1.67) favourite to win with some bookmakers, while Fury is a 6/5 (2.20) underdog as he looks to make his way out of a brief retirement.
