Former England star Jeremy Guscott believes Aviva Premiership and European Rugby Champions Cup contenders Saracens are “on the bring of greatness” as they look to complete a trophy double to end their 2016-17 campaign.
Head coach Mark McCall’s men will face Clermont Auvergne in the final of this season’s Champions Cup on Saturday, where they have been installed as heavy 1/2 (1.50) favourites to clinch a second successive continental title.
Meanwhile, Sarries are also priced as favourites to beat Premiership play-off semi-final opponents Exeter Chiefs and are 7/5 (2.40) frontrunners to go on and win the Grand Final, where they could meet either Wasps or Leicester Tigers.
Those fancying the English titans to complete a historic double can back Saracens at 39/25 (2.56) to replicate last season’s feat and win both trophies, establishing a dynasty as one of the greatest club teams to have graced European rugby as a result.
Guscott said: “Mark McCall’s team are three wins away from a quite astonishing feat.Victory against Clermont, combined with beating Exeter and then either Leicester or Wasps in the Premiership final, would add up to a double-double.”
