Arsenal will have their chance of clinching the fourth spot in the 2016-17 Premier League standings on the last day of the season after they defeated Sunderland 2-0 on Tuesday evening.
The Gunners, fifth, needed a win in order to move back within a single point of fourth-placed Liverpool, and despite struggling for a breakthrough at the Emirates Stadium, a second-half brace from Alexis Sanchez ensured they’ll fight for UEFA Champions League qualification on the last day of the campaign.
Elsewhere, Manchester City beat West Bromwich Albion 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium to move two points above Liverpool and into third spot, in the process cementing their spot in the qualifying spots.
Liverpool host Middlesbrough on Sunday and look almost certain to clinch the fourth and final Champions League place, while Arsenal will welcome Everton to the Emirates in what could be a tricky test of their credentials.
