Either Manchester United or Ajax will be crowned 2016-17 UEFA Europa League champions on Wednesday evening as two of the continent’s most decorated powerhouses go up against one another in a duel for the ages.
The two teams will meet at the Friends Arena in Solna, Stockholm, and it’s Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils who have been picked out as firm favourites to add their first European trophy in more than six years.
The final comes just days after an explosion at an Ariana Grande concert rocked Manchester, with the incident no doubt unsettling some of the United stars in the build-up.
However, ex-Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand believes the incident could stir something in Mourinho’s men and told BBC Radio 5 live:
“It will dawn on the players after that this is such a huge game, not only for Manchester United Football Club, but also for a player to show they can bring a community, a city, a country together by playing and showing that whatever goes on they will go out there and perform to the best of ability.”
