Denmark will need to pull off one of the mightiest upsets in recent memory if they’re to clinch the Women’s Euro 2017 title on Sunday as they prepare to take on a motivation Netherlands outfit on their own soil.
The Dutch hosts defeated England 3-0 on Thursday to reach the final in Enschede and have since been priced at 10/11 (1.91) to go on and win the final, while the Danes sit as much less comfortable 4/1 (5.00) underdogs.
The Netherlands also hold a distinct advantage in that they’ve already beaten Denmark once in this tournament—a 1-0 victory en route to topping Group A—which is sure to give the Oranje even more of a boost ahead of a home final.
Denmark manager Nils Nielsen likened his side to Rocky Balboa preparing to take on Apollo Creed in the build-up to Sunday’s duel and said:
“We had a very interesting first match. It’s like the ‘Rocky’ movies. In the first fight between Rocky and Apollo Creed, Apollo Creed was a bit surprised that Rocky actually fought back and we fought back in the second half.
“It’s going to be the same with the match tomorrow with the Netherlands. It’s going to be like the second match between Apollo Creed and Rocky and, this time, Rocky’s going to win.”
