West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels has sent England star Ben Stokes a firm warning before the two teams clash at Durham on September 16, telling his adversary to “stay on the boundary” if he’s to avoid sparks flying.
The pair first collided in 2015, when Samuels had some words for his opponent before saluting when Stokes was dismissed from the field later in the game.
However, Samuels has said there won’t be trouble unless Stokes is the one who starts it:
“I’m going to come to England and be a good boy, at least for the start. As long as he keeps quiet, I won’t start anything, so if anything does happen that means he has said something to me first. He should stay on the boundary when I’m batting, as far away as possible.”
Samuels’ comments could merely be a ploy to unsettle one of England’s major talismans ahead of their meeting this month, with the West Indies current 17/2 (9.50) underdogs to win, while the hosts are wide favourites to triumph at 1/3 (1.33).
