The trainer of British boxing superstar Anthony Joshua has warned replacement opponent Carlos Takam could be an even more dangerous foe than the man he’s replaced.
Joshua was scheduled to fight Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev before he was forced out due to injury, but Rob McCracken is wary of the challenge Takam presents and said:
“It wasn’t ideal. When I spoke to [promoter] Eddie [Hearn], it wasn’t ideal because we trained for the best part of three months for Kubrat Pulev. But I think, without a doubt, [Takam is] a live opponent, he’s a dangerous opponent. I watched him, Takam, against Povetkin and obviously in the Joseph Parker fights. Very competitive, very difficult to beat.”
Joshua hasn’t made a lot of movement in the odds and is an even stronger favourite to beat Takam than he was against Pulev, improving to 1/50 (1.02) with Ladbrokes after his new opponent was announced.
